I've been on the receiving end of medical care that ranged from brilliant to appalling, all delivered by highly trained, intelligent, well intentioned people. It pays to arm oneself with as much information as possible, and sharing stories can be theraputic as well as defensive.

A lot of blogs and internet sites offer the opportunity to rant, blow off steam or revenge yourself against those who've done you wrong. The prospect of a disgruntled employee or unbalanced patient having a forum for their venom makes doctors and other caregivers nervous about a rating and review website like CareSeek's.
It is interesting to note that far fewer than one in ten of the reviews on the site is negative, and of that small number there is often something positive in the review. The physician is described as competent, but with a poor bedside manner or treats his staff poorly. Or the caregiver is excellent, but the staff is sloppy and unhelpful. It is rare to run across a completely negative review.
Overwhelmingly, people are coming to the site and enthusiastically recommending care providers they like and admire. The members' drive seems to be to promote the best doctors and nurse practitioners, not bash the providers they have had problems with.
CareSeek's mission is to improve communication between providers and patients in a positive and productive way, and so far it has been remarkably successful.
